Lexibook latest offering is the Harry Potter Interactive Electronic Chess Computer incorporating the usual Kaare Danielsen chess engine.
Obviously trying to attract the Harry Potter fan base to take up chess, it's oversized character pieces are very hard to move around the board without actually knocking the other pieces down.

I bought it as I quite like the design of the board with it's 32mm squares and of course Kaare's adjustable playing style chess engine. Another feature of the board that I like is the marble effect of the playing area.

There were various things about the set that didn't appeal to me.

Firstly the character pieces had to go. I replaced them with a Excalibur set that were glued onto the tops of very small plastic transparent paint pot lids so that the square indicator light could be seen through them.

Second to be replaced were the 16 luminous yellow flares that protruded around the board. I replaced these with small flat clear 8x2mm transparent kitchen door stops.

Lastly I reduced the amount of gold paint at each end of the board with black self adhesive vinyl.

Now I am very happy with my Harry Potter chess computer

Obviously all the sounds and flashing lights won't be to everyone's taste but they can be all turned off.

A nice little modification during the past few very cold and now snowy days.

Das neueste Angebot von Lexibook ist der interaktive elektronische Schachcomputer Harry Potter, der die übliche Schach-Engine von Kaare Danielsen enthält.
Offensichtlich versucht es, die Harry-Potter-Fangemeinde zum Schachspielen zu bewegen, da es aufgrund der übergroßen Charakterfiguren sehr schwierig ist, sich auf dem Brett zu bewegen, ohne die anderen Figuren tatsächlich umzuwerfen.

Ich habe es gekauft, weil mir das Design des Bretts mit seinen 32-mm-Quadraten und natürlich Kaares anpassbarer Schach-Engine für den Spielstil sehr gefällt. Ein weiteres Merkmal des Bretts, das mir gefällt, ist der Marmoreffekt der Spielfläche.

Es gab verschiedene Dinge an dem Set, die mir nicht gefielen.

Zuerst mussten die Charakterteile verschwinden. Ich habe sie durch ein Excalibur-Set ersetzt, das auf die Oberseite von sehr kleinen transparenten Farbtopfdeckeln aus Kunststoff geklebt wurde, sodass die quadratische Kontrollleuchte durch sie hindurch gesehen werden konnte.

Als zweites mussten die 16 leuchtend gelben Fackeln ersetzt werden, die rund um die Tafel hervorstanden. Ich habe diese durch kleine, flache, durchsichtige Küchentürstopper von 8 x 2 mm ersetzt.

Zuletzt habe ich die Menge der Goldfarbe an jedem Ende der Tafel mit schwarzem selbstklebendem Vinyl reduziert.

Jetzt bin ich sehr zufrieden mit meinem Harry-Potter-Schachcomputer

Natürlich sind nicht alle Geräusche und blinkenden Lichter jedermanns Sache, aber sie können alle ausgeschaltet werden.

Eine nette kleine Abwechslung während der letzten sehr kalten und nun schneereichen Tage.
