Good evening chaps,
another unbalanced match: Mephisto Solar King vs Yeno 532XL, with roughly 850 CElo points discrepancy, according to my rating list. So, two points scored by Ulf Rathsman' program. Each time the Solar King is in trouble with threatened pieces, it can play senseless moves just to try avoiding the unavoidable. ![]()

Good morning,
the weather is rainy over Paris, so I had to shorten my usual bike ride... This match is Mephisto (by Saitek) Maestro Travel vs Novag Chess Champion Chess Partner 2000. With more than 450 CElo points in favor of the Maestro Travel, it was expected to be an easy walk for it. Things went in a different way. Not during the first game, where the CP2000 as Black played like a beginner, moving its Queen out very early, letting the Maestro develop itself with tempi. Few moves later, the Maestro pins the poor Queen and the game is soon over. The second game deserves watching it. It is the shortest so far in this competition, and the CP2000 was on the verge of a win! As soon as its third move out of book, the Maestro Travel blunders, unaware of the trap it left its Queen in. And CP2000 played the correct refutation move! Was it by chance or complete calculation? I suspect the CP2000 at least smelled the hit... ![]() Too bad for the suspense, shortly later it failed to survive a fork and the lucky Maestro Travel could save the game.

Hallo Alle,
the Chess Terminator offers no chance to the Constellation 3,6/Quattro. The Novag forfeits no estime, to my opinion it did not commit any blatant mistake nor blunder: just going under the wheels of the much stronger CT800. The first game with CT800 playing as White is rather short with less than 30 moves; whilst in the second game the "3,6" achieves a worthy of respect resistance.

Good evening,
last round for group five starts with the "match of the weak" (not the match of the week ![]() The first game with Solar King as White is surprisingly slightly dominated by the MK1 between moves 10 to 15, then balanced until move 30. From this point, the Solar King fails three times in a row to mate in 1 ![]() The second game is more one-sided in favor of the Solar King, which missed to seize several chances for better moves - but how could we bear it a grudge? The device is under 1000 CElo... By the way, the batteries went low in the Solar King during one of these games (the first set, unchanged so far, I used it for years) and I could replace them without losing the game: great! A small "s" on the display warned me; the device stopped accepting input; I switched it off, swapped the AA batteries one by one, powered it back on, the game was still present. ![]()

Good morning all,
Applied Concept Sargon 2.5 gives a hard lesson to the Chess Champion Chess Partner 2000. In the first game as Black, the CP2000 commits a usual mistake for such weak chess computers: reacting to a threat by a counterthreat, apparently keeping the balance, rather than simply escaping the initial threat. Often a bad miscalculation; here a loser move... The second game is a short one, to my opinion the funniest so far in this competition. No comment! ![]()

Good evening,
According to their relative ranking, Novag Constellation 3,6/Quattro could have dreamt of scoring half a point from its match against the Yeno 532XL. But this didn't happen. In its first game as White, the Constellation was close to a win on move 22; too bad it chose the wrong piece to achieve a Pawn capture: using my Queen or my Rook? ![]() Second game is balanced until move 40 or so, therefore a good game from the 3,6 as Black, before losing initiative and getting under the wheels of a strong combined attack, leveraging no less than a Knight, a Rook and the ennemy Queen.

AW: The 64-cup
Hi,
Last match for group 5 selection is CT800 1.42 vs Mephisto Maestro Travel. The Craig Barnes program is simply and clearly overwhelmed by the Chess Terminator. With 730 CElo less, no chance left for the Maestro Travel! ![]()

AW: The 64-cup
Hi again,
and now, to the group 5 results: Code:
1. CT800 1.42 (lv GMI 5m+10s) 6 points 2. Yeno 532XL (lv ti3) 4 points S/B 10,0 3. Mephisto Maestro Travel (lv 15s) 4 points S/B 2,0 Buchholz 8,0 4. Applied Concept Sargon 2.5 (lv 2) 4 points S/B 2,0 Buchholz 4,0 5. Mephisto Solar King (lv Turbo A8) 3 points 6. Novag Constellation 3.6/Quattro (lv 1) 2 points 7. Novag Chess Champion Chess Partner 2000 (lv 2) 1 point 8. Novag Chess Champion MK1 (lv 2) no point Therefore, CT800 and Yeno 532XL are in for the cup, and Maestro Travel can enter the consolation tournament. And now, it is high time I introduced selection group 6, where the Berlin 68000 is the seeded player: - Mephisto Berlin - VEB RFT Schachcomputer SC2 - TEC Schachcomputer - Novag Emerald Classic - Scisys Sensor Chess + SPM (Strong Play Module) - Vonset / Femuey L6-v1 - CXG Super Enterprise - Scisys Intercontinental Traveler If both Berlin and Emerald Classic qualify for the main cup (odds are high for this!), there might be some suspense for the consolation tournament. Would the Vonset L6 first version ![]() Wait and see... MfG, Tibono |
