I can't see any "problem" expression from our friend Mychess. To my understanding, he is just saying the physical box user interface is bad, and the emulated version worse due to the screen display in front of the user (versus a view from above with the physical device). Therefore a big thank to Franz for the "reversed", more usual LEDs position.

Thank you Tibono, you understood the meaning of my bad English.
Yes, English is not my mother tongue.
My contribution was intended to reinforce Fhub's opinion that it was a bad decision on CXG's part to use horizontal LEDs at the top of the board.
And it's good to take only three times long as usual to see the move (i.e. I sometimes take longer with this LED arrangement).
Perhaps the architecture of a sentence through a succession of FR->EN->DE translations becomes incomprehensible?
But having tested this sequence, DeepL retains the meaning of my sentence.

I may not write English well, but at least I use polite formulas.

Ich kann das nachvollziehen und bin dir dankbar für das neue Layout. Andererseits sind die LEDs oben und rechts ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal des CXG Star Chess (zumindest wüsste ich auf Anhieb keinen anderen SC, der das auch hat)

Aber umso besser, wenn man die Wahl hat (im Gegensatz zum "echten" Gerät, wo die oberen LEDs teilweise auch von Figuren verdeckt werden)

Alleinstellungsmerkmal schön und gut, aber wenn es so ein besch..... ist, dann kann ich gerne drauf verzichten.

Mich stört es einfach nur deswegen, weil ich beim Selberspielen immer die LEDs unten und links erwarte, und sich daher mein Hirn ständig umorientieren muß und zu rauchen beginnt.
Zum Glück braucht man ja beim Spiel mit MessChess gar nicht auf das Originalbrett schauen.

That's why I didn't recognize your point.
You can argue with CXG, but the design was created 38 years ago.
Absolutely finished past!

My first emulations of Sargon 2.5 and CC7 date back to 1990, and were in Turbo C under MS-DOS, with a simple ASCII interface: so I'm not very attached to the physical aspect of emulation, even though it's much more pleasant to use: so I understand your point of view.
Furthermore, you could argue that the leds are arranged on the opposite side to the human player, which is more logical (we don't generally look at the leds to play our moves).
But for some of us who frequently use several different games, standardizing the position of the leds is easier and more pleasant, even if the physical appearance of the chess computer is no longer 100% (like its third dimension, by the way ;-) .

I owe 75 original chess computers, especially the old plastic boxes from the late 70s and early 80s. An original Star Chess is on my shelf, too.
And they all are in the original state. In this context I'm also not interested in tuned devices.

I appreciate the hard work, Franz invested in the CB-Emu.
Every emulated device brings back fond memories to me.

wo meine Augen hingucken. "Mein Hirn" schaltet da in Sekunden um.

In my humble opinion, on a physical device the problem can disappear, because the chess computer is towards the bottom of our field of vision and at over 40 cm, our field of vision embraces the whole device (dimension of the Star Chess 190x110x30) and the position of the leds matters little, apart from the acquired habit of looking towards our color (generally closer to us).

On an emulation, the dimensions have changed, we are now at 60 cm, and we need to embracing a much wider field. In my case, I've set the emulator to full screen, i.e. 520x290, and my eyes can't detect the lit led without scanning the screen, especially as a lot of light is emitted by the whole screen and the led is small.

As for the rank LEDs on the right-hand side, it might be wise to place them on the same side as the function keys, rather than on the left, where in this case you have to look to the right to see if the computer has played, checked (or checkmated), then to the left to determine which piece is being played. For the same reason, when you check the position, the rank LEDs are next to the chess piece keys, which you have to press with precision and force (Star Chess has hard and small keys), thus avoiding having to look to the far left of the device.
