AW: The 64-cup

Hello,
the Systema Challenge gets 2 points out of facing the Conchess Escorter. Not a surprise, considering the roughly 380 CElo gap.

Actually, despite not blundering, the Escorter never puts a firm foot on the ground, apart from the ten or so first moves: always on the slightly worse side of the balance, and things going worse along time. That's life, Caïssa did not bother helping.

Hi,

the last match for the group 1 is DGT Centaur vs Novag Citrine. With 900 CElo points difference, odds in favor of the Citrine were marginal, if any. Well, according to theory, the Citrine could get a point out of 200 games (I would suspect two draws rather than a win) .

Nothing such happened .

In the first game, playing black, the Citrine didn't come down in my Kibitzer estimation, but couldn't do much. Game over in 43 moves, despite the 1.a4 bold opening chosen by the Centaur.

Second game, Citrine plays with light pieces; despite material balance the situation shifts more clearly in favor of the Centaur after an error from the Citrine on move 26. The Citrine resigned after 47 moves (I knew it was able to! ).

AW: The 64-cup

Good afternoon all,
as group1 selection tournament is completed, here is the result table:
Code:
1. DGT Centaur (Expert mode) 6 points
2. Systema Challenge (Tibono setting lv 50) 5 points
3. Novag Beluga (lv 12) 3 points, S/B 7.5
4. Novag Citrine (lv at4) 3 points, S/B 7.0
5/6. Conchess Escorter (basic module lv P2) and Mephisto Mirage (lv A3) 2.5 points
7/8. Fidelity Sensory Chess Challenger 8 (lv 2) and Mephisto Mein Erster (lv h3) 1 point
Therefore, the Centaur and the Challenge qualify for the main competition; whereas the Beluga will enter the consolation cup. Bad luck for the Citrine!

Now, let's introduce group 2, where the King Performance is the seeded player:
- Novag Chess Champion Delta-1
- Scisys Chess Companion III
- Excalibur Ivan The Terrible
- Novag Octo
- Millenium The King Performance
- Fidelity Chess Challenger 7
- Novag Constellation Expert
- Mephisto Rebell 5

I hope my beloved Constellation Expert will qualify for the cup!
Let's figure it out...

MfG,
Tibono

Good afternoon to all;

first match in group 2, round 1 is Novag Chess Champion Delta-1 vs Scisys Chess Companion III. With 600 CElo discrepancy as an order of magnitude, the two points gained by the CCIII are far from being any surprise.

I shall refrain from writing much comments , otherwise my question mark key would get worn out by too much hits, and you would get bored. In the first game, a funny white King journey occurs for the Delta-1, reaching 6th row before going back to its initial position on e1 square, just to get mated. In the second game, the Delta-1 as black stubbornly pushes its Pawns, to such an extent that only on move 14 does it move a piece. It is of course so under-developped that it is a piece of cake for the Chess Companion III.

Re: The 64-cup

Hello,

the second match is with Ron Nelson's Excalibur Ivan (the Terrible) and the puny Novag Octo, which cannot stand a chance - two points for Ivan (who often said 'I will crush you, I will destroy you' ...).

In the first game, Octo playing black cherished illusions until its decisive blunder move #31.

In the second game, Octo as white can only play 8 moves before a first error, then things get worse as soon as move #11. Very few resistance offered!

Re: The 64-cup

Hi,

next match is again very unbalanced ... The Millenium King Performance runs over the Fidelity Chess Challenger 7; in no more than 20 moves with the light pieces; and 30 moves with the dark ones.

At least, this gave me the opportunity to clean my CC7 from some dust that covered it

Re: The 64-cup

Hello,

round 1 for group 2 is now completed, with a kind of surprise: a fairly balanced match with the Novag Constellation Expert featuring some 100 CElo or so advantage, compared to its opponent the Mephisto Rebell 5. This should theorically lead to 64 to 36 points over 100 games; nevertheless the Rebell 5 won both games!

As soon as move #14, the Constellation Expert attacks the Black King and gathers three pieces in the area. Unfortunately, few moves later, with a choice between two light pieces to attack further on (a Knight and a Bishop, with support from the Queen), the Expert chose the wrong one (used them in the wrong sequence) and the attack hanged fire with some material loss. It is then a long way for the Rebell to achieve the win as Black.

In the second game, none of both computers seems to be aware of the rule about a passed Pawn file; where Rooks belong to, behind the Pawn (whatever for support or defense). Only once the Pawn reached the seventh rank did the Expert realize its Rook was required there; thus postponing the promotion. But few moves later it blundered badly, letting the Rebell move its own Rook behind its passed Pawn, game over...

Re: The 64-cup

Hi,

a match of weak ones now: Novag Octo vs Novag "Chess Champion" Delta-1. Just a reminder: the Delta-1 code is a messed-up copy of the Boris, dating from Novag's early pirate era. Did I mention it likes to push its Pawns? Yes, I did... and the first game provides an evidence: it IS a bloody pawn-pusher... Only on move #10 does it finally agree to move anything else... under the pressure from a check. The Octo is a bit lucky, as the Delta-1 was unable to spot several opportunities for a mate in 2.

The second game is a massacre for material: the Octo achieves mate with a Queen, 2 Rooks, 1 Bishop and 1 Knight advantage (and a Pawn more, too, but this gets marginal ).
