Hallo,

eine kurze Frage an die Entwickler:

Ist es mit überschaubarem Aufwand evtl. möglich mit den Emulationen 64 echte LEDs und physische 64 Schalter anzusteuern, anstatt dem Blinken in der Emulation, bzw. der Maussteuerung?
Dann könnte man diese in ein echtes Schachbrett einsetzen
und unterhalb oder neben dem Brett läuft ein kleines Windows Tablet
mit MESS.

Also prinzipiell wäre das sicher machbar (etwa in der Form, wie das manche Schachprogramme per DGT/Smartboard-Treiber unterstützen), aber das wäre nur intern im MAME/MESS-System selbst zu realisieren, im Code für die jeweiligen Schachmodule (also da wo mein CB-Emu ansetzt) geht da nichts.

Da ich mich allerdings weder mit dem MAME-System selbst noch mit Hardware/Treiber-Programmierung gut genug auskenne, wäre das nur eine Aufgabe für einen MAME-Entwickler, von daher solltest Du also eher im MAME/MESS-Forum danach fragen - ich habe allerdings meine Zweifel, ob sich jemand dort sowas antun würde, denn erstens wäre das sicher nicht einfach, und außerdem scheint das MAME-Team an Schach-Emulationen nicht besonders interessiert zu sein (mit wenigen Ausnahmen wie z.B. 'hap').

Maybe we'll soon also have a bigger Novag collection (similar to Mephisto or Fidelity), because there are a few ROMs already available in MAME (Super Expert, Super Forte, ...), but I couldn't get them working 3 years ago when I started with the Mephisto modules for CB-Emu.
And the Super Constellation feels quite lonely currently ...

I am trying to build a chess board that emulates a USB keyboard that can connect to CB-Emu but need to change the Input (this machine) for each square.

Say I change the square value of A2 to Kbd A and Kbd 2 then when I exit the program and restart it my changes have not been saved.

Is there a way to save changed Input (this machine) values?

Hi Bryan!

Well, usually all changed input assignments are indeed saved in the engines cfg-file (in the cfg folder), but there are a few modules for which I had to write-protect this cfg-file to correctly work with my code (e.g. all Fidelity EAG and EAS machines), so of course saving anything in these cfg-files will fail.
Completely removing this read-only attribute is not a good idea, because then you'll have troubles in playing with those modules, but if you have to set you input assginments only once, then you could remove this write-protection before, then make your input changes and exit CB-Emu, and then you can write-protect the cfg-file again.
