Indeed Shredder 13.5 throws in some blunders, especially < 1500 Elo.

If you prefer not to see these blunders, I would recommend one of the other engines.

Earlier Stockfish versions played too computer-like in my opinion. This has been improved, but I don't know, if it will suit your needs.

So I would recommend Komodo, if you are more a positional player, or Hiarcs, if you are more a tactical player.

Rule of thumb: If you are an e4 player, you'll probably be more happy with tactical engines. If you are a d4 player, you'll probably feel more comfortable with positional engines. (Unless you play Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, of course. )

Actually some versions of the King engine are available in the Retro section, but only those of the early to mid 90's. You can compare the versions on the Schachcomputer.info Wiki:
