AW: The 64-cup

Hi,

this round is unfavorable to both Mephisto/Saitek Chess Challengers: after the lost point by the 32 Mhz tuned one, the standard 10 Mhz gives half a point away to the Blitz.

The first game with the Saitek Blitz playing as White is not much disputed, both computers exchanging minor pieces on each and every opportunity, reaching one Queen plus two Rooks each in the endgame; and soon agreeing to a draw per repetition.

In the second game, the Chess Challenger rules from the beginning to the end, achieving a better Pawns position and leveraging an ennemy King too much exposed to my taste.

AW: The 64-cup

Good evening to all,

Next games renewed my appetite for playing with the Conic . I could manage more efficiently the input of moves, and facing the Boris Diplomat the plug-in device achieved rather good games, in the way of making correct use of the mistakes committed by the Boris.

In the first game Boris Diplomat plays White and stupidly aligns its King behind its Queen on a semi-opened file already under the fire of an ennemy Rook. Fatal error for sure, but the Conic Chess Computer uses it quite efficiently.

In the second game, Boris plays Black and again don't care enough about King safety, uncastled with big guns in front of him. This couldn't last long, thus two points for the Conic!

AW: The 64-cup

Hello,

third round for group 7 continues with the match H&G Mephisto II / Fidelity Electronics Chess Challenger 10.

The first game is rather long, close to 50 moves, due to a game staying closed for long, but also because the Mephisto II (playing as White) has been a bit shy before opening it. Main reason to my opinion for the loss by the CC10 is the fact it got one of its Rooks stuck behind its King; therefore the brikett could play a Rook up for a while. When the CC10 got its Rook free, it was just too late: it was already three Pawns down and couldn't survive.

The next game with the Chess Challenger playing as White is balanced until late middlegame, where both devices lack any plan and shuffle pieces aimlessly . The CC10 then commits a blunder losing a Rook, and collapses. That's all the brikett needed to score two points as expected from this match!

AW: The 64-cup

Good evening,

as already stated, the Saitek/Mephisto Chess Challenger 32 Mhz is the seeded player within this 7th group; nevertheless unsure so far to enter the final cup because of its loss of a point against the Excellence during the previous round.
But now, after two wins in a row facing the Saitek "Kasparov" Blitz, its appearance in the next step of the competition is secured.

Playing as White in the first clash, it dominates all game long and reaches the endgame with a three Pawns advantage, which the Blitz of course cannot stand.

Playing as Black in the second game, the domination occurs slightly later but as well inexorably.

AW: The 64-cup

Hi, good afternoon to all,

the first match is a high level one, facing the seeded player Fidelity Designer Mach III Master 2265 with the second strongest in the 8th group: the Saitek GK 2000.

From the hardware point of view, the Fidelity leverages a 68000 CPU running at 16 Mhz, roughly 50% faster than the H8 at 10 Mhz of the Saitek. From the software standpoint, 64Kb ROM for the Fidelity, that's four times larger than the 16Kb Saitek. Nevertheless, both devices are close as far as the playing strength is concerned. And that's a great achievement from the Morsch's program, I consider it the strongest 16K program powering a chess computer (and would be happy to read about any opinion about).

This materialized in this match, as both devices won as White, with little chances left for the opponent.

AW: The 64-cup

Good morning to everyone,

second match in first round for group 8 is Yeno 301XL vs Tandy Chess Champion 2150. For your information, the CC2150 runs the version "B" of the Kaplan/Barnes program on a 3 Mhz 65C02. It is not a great attacker, which partly explains the resistance offered in both games by the Yeno. The other part of the explanation is related to the 301XL itself: to my opinion an interesting small program, able to resist consistently. But of course 380 CElo points handicap can't be overcome, and the CC2150 earns two points from this match.

Hi,

third match in group 8 is a no-brainer for the mighty Novag Super Nova, which kicked the Boris back to the museum. Yet, it has been a 56 moves journey when Boris played White, congrats to the old wooden box!

Hi, good evening,

round 1 is now completed with the fourth match, Fidelity Sensory Chess Challenger 6 vs Lexibook Chesslight. The level I use for the Chesslight is C8, this stands for 10 to 15 secs with aggressive style. The reason why is I wanted to clearly differentiate its play from the Yeno 320XT one, as both are using the same Kaare Danielsen 4K program.

The first game is dominated by the Chesslight playing as Black, but the second game could have been won by the Sensory 6 that failed to convert a domination period into a win; and the Chesslight is happy with a 3-times repetition.

Hey, I'm back...

round 2 for group 8 starts with the match Applied Concept Boris vs Yeno 301XL.
The first game (Boris plays White) is short, a straightforward and easy victory for the Yeno. Fun fact: the Yeno starts the game playing seven (7!) Knight moves in a row. Not an issue though, as Boris developped its position in a bad way...

The next game is another story, a bit deceptive from the 301XL: despite capturing an ennemy Knight as early as move number six, it will have to play 67 moves to achieve the mate. Worth mentioning, its white squares Bishop is more than a bad Bishop: a pityful one, that will end captured...
